I think because of safty advancments made since OSHA formed 1969-70 you are seeing a diff. I dont know If they get their # from death toll alone or actually studing each trade. But I bet you if you were to study each trade’s safty policy you would find where improvments could be made. 10 years ago you probably would have seen police officer at top of list the potential danger still their but because we learn from past mistakes in all lines of work we are safer. Me I thank OSHA for makeing my work atmospher safer. I also thank unions for fighting for my right to be paid apropriatly for the dangerous work that I do as an Electrician.

Hey al.. It IS a job. I am an assaultman in the usmc and I’m also an atheist. I do this for a living because it provides me with reliable pay and benifits for me and my family. I’m no more patriotic than your average American man. I have no problem with Muslims or any other ethnic or religious group. I’m paid to carry out orders from my commander. So will you please tell me how I’m fighting for my beliefs?

First of, Althaf is correct, Jay does come off as a racist. I don’t understand why the military in general is not on the list either being the retired Marine that I am but it isn’t. Here is a link to another article and the military isn’t on any of their three lists.http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2009/09/04/americas-most-dangerous-jobs/ The categories are also vague and broad. I don’t see tow truck drivers listed either but many get killed every year while hooking up cars due to drunk or inattentive drivers. If you don’t believe me, put your emergency flashers on on the side of the road on a Friday night around 11 p.m. and then stand next to your car and see how many people come close to hitting you. Some regard it as a game.

You played that race card pretty fast. Putting that aside, being in the military, especially a volunteer force, certainly qualifies it as a “job”. Ask the U.S. Census Bureau. But even worse, by ignoring this job classification, you insult every serviceman/woman the world over. Every nation, except possibly for a few, employs a military institution. So whether they’re fighting on foreign soil, performing security duties at home, or even just training, they still most certainly have one of the top ten, most dangerous jobs. It’s not racist or nationalistic – it’s simply a fact.

We did not really ignore it, but yes we did not want to classify it as a job. Their valor and courage in defending their beliefs is too high to classify it as a job.

So, just because “our fathers” put them at risk doesn’t make their job dangerous? I think Jzech’s point was that you completely ignored a whole segment of the population when you failed to mention service men and women. Just because they are in the military doesn’t mean it isn’t a job. And it is definitely one of the most dangerous.

We usually do not entertain racists, but then we believe in freedom of speech too, and so I have to make your comment public.
